Do the Diamond 9 Exercise.

The Diamond 9 exercise asks you to arrange 9 opinions in order of how important they would be to you. We all value the opinions of others to some extent and modify our conduct and appearance accordingly. The problems start when their views provide the trigger for harmful behavior that can effect our well being. Starting to smoke, becoming a bully or drinking too much are examples of this. A cruel remark about your appearance can cause the onset of an eating disorder. Your level of self esteem has a lot to do with your response to the views of others and can be reflected in the arrangement of the nine statements. You should read the section on self-esteem and give yourself time by yourself to consider the effect others have on you and what you can and should do about it. Drag the nine rectangles into a diamond shape with the most important answers at the top. Add the date ( and your name if you want ) and print out the page. Do the exercise again in a month or two and see if there is any difference. There can only be an improvement in your self- esteem if you carry out some of the suggested activities. As your self-esteem improves the boxes containing your own opinions should move towards the top.
